About the Author

DR . PETER LARKIN qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 1953, and was later awarded the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine by thesis from the University of Berne. He acquired his first Bull Terrier while still at college and has remained faithful to the breed ever since. Despite this, he and his wife have owned dogs of more than 18 different breeds over the years. He was contributing author to Encyclopedia of the Dog, and International Encyclopedia of Dogs, and was until recently the veterinary correspondent to Our Dogs magazine. Peter has judged dogs all over the world. He was a member of the Kennel Club, serving on its Scientific Committee, and Chairman of the Bull Terrier Club and Vice-President of Southern Countries (UK) Canine Association. Dr. Larkin is now retired and living in South Africa.

MIKE STOCKMAN, MRCVS, qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 1949, and was actively involved with dogs all his life. He spent four years in the British Royal Army Veterinary Corps training war dogs before going into general veterinary practice. He served as President of the British Veterinary Association, and as Chairman of the Crufts organizing sub-committee. Mike judged dogs at the highest levels of competition both at home and abroad. He contributed regularly to veterinary journals and was a BBC commentator at Crufts for 10 years.
