Overview

Philoloco, Doctor Sumo, Polynome Z and Cerebrex are four retired Luchadores known as "The Tikitis." They thought life would be easy living on a "savage island." Boy, were they wrong! Amidst dealing with growing old, the foursome accidentally find themselves in the most wild of habitats, where world-threatening evildoers regularly create turmoil. It’s hard to call retired life on a tropical island "paradise" when you have to deal with Voodoo zombies, brain-swapping mad scientists, a cyclops and, worst of all, a visit from Philoloco’s overbearing mother!

About the Author

Born in 1979, Fabien Mense drew from a very early age, initially for his friends. While attending the famous Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg College, he discovered the rich world of animation and met Bill and Gobi. After graduating in 2003, he was hired by the Marathon animation studio, where he was a storyboard artist for the Totally Spies animated television series. He also became a character designer for the Team Galaxy series. In 2006, he was back in touch with Bill and Gobi and joined them on the Lucha Libre project, and co-created its spin-off The Tikitis with Jerry Frissen. From 2008 to 2009, he worked as a character designer for Hotel Transylvania.
Jerry Frissen (born Thierry Frissen in Belgium) is an American comic book writer and toy&graphic designer. He is the senior graphic designer at Humanoids as well as the author of several best-selling graphic novels, including the anthology comic book series "Lucha Libre" ("Unfabulous Five," "The Tikitis"), "The Zombies That Ate The World" ("The Z Word") and the new cycle of the internationally acclaimed series "The Metabarons," co-written with Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by Valentin Sécher, Niko Henrichon and Esad Ribic, under the title "The Metabaron." In addition to his work on "The Metabaron," Jerry Frissen is also the author of the forthcoming sci-fi thriller "Exo" (March 2018).

It’s axiomatic that superheroes (or even heroes not-so-super) get annoyed when they don’t have any forces of evil to defend against. So it is at the start of this loony and somewhat underbaked collection, where a group of masked avengers have relocated from East L.A. to the island paradise of Luau-Luau and find themselves intensely bored. Fortunately for the guys (who grimace and growl behind their trademark Lucha Libre–style wrestling masks), and unfortunately for the island paradise, trouble comes their way in the form of teeming zombies, mythological monsters, and a crazed billionaire who thinks he’s Zeus. Other problems arise when one of the guys confesses a serial problem with seducing women on the island. The art is lush and beautifully rendered, while the action is sharply paced. Unfortunately, writer Frissen and artist M. are strictly juvenile when it comes to their one-note character development. (Dec.)
