Overview

In the trenches of El Mazucu, give us heads of the Civil War, two brothers in arms, Higinio Carrocera and Tordín, sincere one with another and make memory of their lives. The situation is desperate and only a handful of combatants are supporting the resistance of the Northern Front. Years ago, the children of the village of Castañera Alta, in the Nalón basin, received with curiosity or with brushes the arrival of a family of poor and eccentric people, to which they would soon hang the nickname of los Tordos, The Thrushes. Sabela, the little girl of the recently brought, a girl with eyes as black as the famine they bring with, calls the attention of the village boys. Eyes that lay in Miguel, whom everyone calls the Profe, The Teacher. And Miguel feels in that moment all the giddy that you can feel when you are fourteen years old and life shows up without warning. Vicente García Oliva, one of the most outstanding Asturian narrators, signs a work of literary maturity that envelops and flatters us, without making noise or wasting sensationalism. A story of simple people living transcendental moments in the history of their country.
