About the Author

When she’s not writing, Valerie Mechling is a full-time Taekwondo instructor. Her martial arts philosophies of mind, body, and spirit can often be found in her writing. Her first solo novel, Traitor Defiant, was a quarterfinalist for the 2009 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. Valerie is a resident of Utah.

Samuel Stubbs began storytelling at a young age with a circle of close friends. He developed a love of Asian culture and language during two years of volunteer service in Southeast Asia, and as a life-long student of Shotokan Karate. Sam lives in Utah with his beautiful wife and children.

I really enjoyed this book. The world that it takes place in is unique and refreshing. I enjoyed the characters and of course all of the twists and turns. I am planning on giving copies of this book to my extended family for Christmas.

This is probably the best book I've read all summer...The action is riveting. The plot is solid and flows. The descriptions and world-building are beautiful and imaginative. The characters are likable, hateable, and everything in between. I truly enjoyed reading this book, even when I didn't expect to. It isn't your typical adventure story whose ending you can guess from the beginning. Like Brandon Sanderson's books, you can never guess the next twist in the plot...
