The story of philosophy
The Story of Philosophy: The Lives and Opinions of the Greatest Philosophers in the World is a book written by Will Durant in which he provides profiles of many prominent Western philosophers and their ideas, starting with Socrates and Plato, passing through Friedrich Nietzsche. Durant tried to show the connection between their ideas and how one philosopher's idea inspired those who came after him. The book consists of eleven chapters, each of the first nine chapters focusing on one philosopher, while the author provides a brief overview of three philosophers from the beginning of the twentieth century in each of the last two chapters. The book was published in 1924, and a revised second edition was issued in 1933. The book was originally published as a set of booklets in the Little Blue series of inexpensive manuals for the working man. It proved so popular that it was compiled into a single book and published as a volume by Simon and Chester in 1926.
