Overview

Follow Sylvia, Andrew and Gnick the Gnome as they team up in another exciting adventure. When the call comes in that several members of the Department of Discoverers and Detectives (Do-DaD) have gone missing, they head off in search of clues to where they went. This dangerous search leads them deep into underground caverns where cave-ins can happen without notice and darkness is around every corner.

Will they find the missing Do-DaD members before time runs out?
Will they need to be rescued themselves?
What is spelunking?
Who gets a wedgie?

Find out the answers to these questions and more in the second in the Do-DaD Adventures series, The Spelunking Adventure.

At the end of the story Gnick also includes an illustrated appendix that explains the different types of simple machines and how they relate to the plot of the story. Kids will enjoy the story so much that they won't even realize that they are learning about science.

About the Author

Gnick the Gnome grew up in the woods of northern Canada with his 17 brothers and sisters. At a young age he would often explore the forest with his little brother Gnorbert. One day they found themselves trapped by a small forest fire. Luckily, there was a member of the Department of Discoverers and Detectives (Do-DaD for short) nearby who helped them out. On that day, Gnick decided he wanted to join Do-Dad and help out too. When he grew up, he was recruited and went to the secret Do-DaD training school up north. There he learned about science, nature and animals before going out on his own. Since then he has worked his way up to a Dude of the level of Discoverer.

Gnick currently lives in the woods in southern Rhode Island where he enjoys gardening, especially planting wild flowers, and writing in his journal about his adventures. If you look very carefully, you may be able to find the door to his home at the base of a tree, but you can only enter with an invitation or by the use of magical trickery.
