The Song of the Earth is the attempt to create an integral picture. It is the call to explore the marvelous web of life on our planet. It asks that we consciously design gentle, sustainable lifestyles and communities that honor diversity in all forms. The celebrated list of contributors includes Satish Kumar, Wangari Maathai, Joanna Macy, Chris Johnstone, Duane Elgin, Thomas Berry, Elisabet Sahtouris, Ross and Hildur Jackson, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, David Korten, The Venerable Dugu Choegyal Rinpoche, and Stephan Harding.

The Four Keys represent the four dimensions of sustainable design—the Worldview, the Social, the Ecological and the Economic. This series is endorsed by UNESCO and is an official contribution to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. The other books of the series are Beyond You and Me, Gaian Economics, and Designing Ecological Habitats. The Four Keys to Sustainable Communities series was completed in 2012 and is now available in the U.S. for the first time.

About the Author

Maddy Harland is the author of Fertile Edges: Regenerating Land, Culture and Hope and the co-founder and editor of Permaculture International, a magazine which offers practical, innovative solutions and global perspectives. Maddy co-founded Permanent Publications, a publishing company specialising in practical ecological solutions, and the Sustainability Centre in Hampshire, UK, once a military base, and now a thriving immersive learning center. Maddy is an activist, gardener, teacher, community leader, Queens’ Award winning entrepreneur, wife and mother of two daughters. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and is a Visiting Knowledge Exchange Fellow of the Institute of Theological Partnerships at the University of Winchester in the UK.

William Keepin, PhD, is a mathematical physicist with thirty scientific publications on sustainable energy and global warming, who became a whistleblower in nuclear science policy. William cofounded the Satyana Institute and is founder of the Gender Reconciliation International project (www.GRworld.org). He is also a Fellow of the Findhorn Foundation and adjunct faculty at Holy Names University. William has trained extensively in spiritual traditions East and West. He leads contemplative retreats on the emerging interspirituality that bridges major world religions and science (www.pathofdivinelove.org). William is author of Divine Duality: The Power of Reconciliation Between Women and Men (2007) and (with coauthor Cynthia Brix) Women Healing Women (2009).
