CHAPTER 1
There is a large tree that was planted in the middle of a beautiful garden. The tree branches and leaves cover the whole garden. The leaves provide shade and protection when it rains and when it is hot from the sun. The tree is for the flowers and all the creations that live and visit the garden. The tree provides shade for all of it
All of the trees in the garden are special, because in the trees are many caged birds. These birds are placed by a couple who attend to the garden. Some of the birds are rescued from danger and others are raised from baby birds. They live in the cages until they are ready to fly.
There is one bird in particular that the couple decided to name Rika. Rika is beautiful. She has strong, deep blue feathers that sparkle when the sun is shining and then they turn purple when the sun moves to the other side of the world.
When Rika first came to live in the garden, she would awake each morning listening to the songs of all the birds that surrounded her in their cages.
All of the birds had different songs to sing and they sounded so beautiful. The songs were so beautiful that Rika wanted to sing just like them. Rika noticed that the birds who sang beautifully could fly from their cages and she wanted to fly as well. Rika tried to sing the song of the yellow tailed bird, but she could never sing the song just like Cola Amarillo.
Rika would sing the songs of the other birds every day to the couple in the garden. Although, it sounded really nice, the couple knew Rika's own song would be even more beautiful and sweet. If she would only sing the song that belonged to her. The couple had an idea to help Rika discover her own song.
At sunset, the couple would sit under Rika's cage. They would admire how her beautiful feathers sparkled in the sunlight. As Rika listened, she would hear them talk about how cool it was that her feathers were the only feathers that turned purple when the sun set.
The next morning they spoke about how beautiful her voice was and how it is a unique addition to the garden. They knew Rika had the ability to sing all of the other bird's songs. The couple let her know how much they wanted to hear the song that was meant for only her.
When the sun set the couple climbed up with a ladder to Rika's cage and covered it with a heavy gray drape. They knew it would be scary for a little while, but it was time for Rika to focus on her own song.
