"Original, deftly crafted, wonderfully entertaining. . ."

JUNE 2024 - AudioFile

In this audio mystery, listeners follow the adventures of Kit--wife, mother, devout Christian, and dedicated detective--as she investigates criminal acts in late Victorian London. The marvelously theatrical voice of Nan McNamara animates Kit, as well as a whole cast of characters, ranging from a baby to a cruel murderer who runs an opium ring. The plot is rather improbable but fast paced and exciting as Kit is constantly in motion, scrambling over rooftops, thwacking hoodlums, and racing her carriage down the side streets of London. There are some delightfully idiosyncratic characters whose campy voices are especially well executed. Despite being an American, McNamara does a highly credible job of creating Londoners of all classes, genders, and ages. D.L.G. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine
