In a small village, over two thousand years ago, a group of shepherds were alarmed by the presence of an angel that told them that the Messiah, who was foretold to come, was born in Bethlehem that night. This play addresses the shepherds' lives and work. It imagines their innermost thoughts and feelings on that first Christmas Day - what they saw and considered that day, and as they later embarked upon their journey to visit the Christ Child. The play also includes a story of a young couple in love whose prayers are answered shortly after the birth of Jesus. Whereas the Biblical accounts in the play are factual, the events and relationships of the characters are a product of the author's imagination. Besides being very educational, the play also describes the characters' lives after the birth of Jesus.
