The Shadow's Prey
Six stones to wander. Six stones to die.
Six stones that hold the fate of the magic in the world of Myerta in the balance-- to save, or to destroy it.
Enter the Vipers, a gang from the city of Caldam that is made up of young refugees and runaways. Run by Victoria Ballway, a 17 year old orphan with ambitious goals for the group and a ruthless loyalty to her crew. Haven Ibori, lieutenant for the Vipers, Victoria's best friend (and only confidante in the world), master archer and impeccable lockpick. Hugo Kingston, a lieutenant with an uncanny ability to change his appearance and a soft spot for the Viper's leader. Anya Seong, the youngest of the Vipers, a runaway and former ballet dancer that is the perfect size for climbing in vents (which she hates doing).
The Vipers are stjalen, thieves. Robbing banks, politician's homes, museums, it is all in the Viper's repertoire. Steal from the rich, keep most of it for themselves. Spend the rest on feeding the hungry kids the rest of the world forgets about.
When the Vipers attempt to rob a nearly impenetrable bank, they are met with a terrifying foe. The Shadow, she is called, a magical woman with a strange past who breaks into the bank and wreaks havoc inside. The Shadow kills one of the Viper's own in their escape from the bank, tearing a hole in the hearts of the thieves.
Later that day, a boy named Cassian Alderbridge approaches the Vipers with terrible news: the Shadow is on a mission to find the six mythical stones, and destroy them. He offers to fund an expedition for the Vipers to find the stones. After all, they are the best thieves for the job.
The young miscreants are now faced with an impossible goal: find the mythical stones before the Shadow, or any of the others hunting for the stones, find them first, and magic is destroyed forever.
