Overview

My story began over eighty years ago and I must admit, many of my memories have faded. I have written of the events, as best I can remember them. Writing my story has helped me recall them. Some I haven’t thought about in decades.

I am sorry I never got to know my siblings, The Seven Ls, that were my family. We had very few reunions and when we did get together, there was always one or two missing. At no time in our lives were we ever all in the same place at the same time. NEVER! There is much about them I never knew and never will. We shared bits and pieces of information, but much of what I learned about dates, places, and events have grown fuzzy.

It is my hope that teenagers who think their parents are out of touch will read this book and give thanks for what they have.

About the Author

I was born the second of The Seven Ls and became a ‘Ward of the State’ when I was only four years old when the authorities sent me to the Iowa State Soldiers Orphans Home. It was an orphanage in Davenport, Iowa and from there I was placed in numerous foster homes and attended many different schools. In 1942, I graduated from a high school in Gladbrook, Iowa, got married, and enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps. After the war there was collage followed by many years teaching English in Oceanside, California. This is my story and I’m sticking to it.
