The Seneschal
Victories aren't won by swords alone!
Facing an invasion by overwhelming numbers, King Halleck marches his rapidly-gathered army to a rugged mountain pass in the middle of the desert. Sadly, at the last castle before entering the desert, the king's elderly seneschal is thrown by a skittish horse and dies. With no alternative, King Halleck appoints the teenage son of the castle seneschal to become the manager of his army's camp.
Young Galloway has never lived outside his calm, orderly castle. Thrown into the chaos of an army hurrying to get to the mountain pass before their enemies, Galloway discovers himself totally inadequate for his new job. Finding himself responsible for providing food, water, horses, hay, weapons, and supplies for 5,000 knights and soldiers ... with no resources at his command, Galloway frets; without supplies, the army fails and his kingdom falls beneath a massive invading force.
Challenged to control his brash, impulsive best friend, and Baron Theodolf's beautiful but haughty and demanding daughter, Galloway struggles with a dwindling store of food to feed an army of hungry soldiers. Angry captains and cooks revile his failures ... and soon everyone hates him. Yet, when the war goes badly, Galloway must prove that his management skills are as imperative to victory as the sword of any warrior.

About the Author

When not writing, Jay Palmer is often seen waltzing or doing the hustle upon dance floors all around Seattle. Born extreme ADHD at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, Jay grew up on military base, moving to a new city every two years. Jay Palmer has always sought the novel and the obscure, and joined numerous fringe groups as a teenager, including Wicca in 1972, the Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia in 1974, Puget Sound Star Trekkers and the Society for Creative Anachronism in 1979 (where he fought his way to become a knight, herald, seneschal, and autocrat), and working ConCom for Norwescons 2-6. Today Jay Palmer rides a Kawasaki Vulcan and leads a quiet life working as a Technical Writer for major software firms, including Microsoft, Attachmate, and the Walt Disney Internet Group. Jay is always looking for the next party, interesting people to meet, and new places to dance.
