Otis took her hand and led her into the boathouse. Inside it was even more rickety and dank smelling. The lake licked greedily at her feet through the slatted boards that made up the floor. Rain poured through the hole in the roof. It was very dark

"Over here." Otis had moved away. He crouched in the corner, his yellow slicker puddling around his small body.

Lissa felt her way toward him.

A loud screech stopped her in her tracks. A big bird was hunched in a wire cage in the corner of the boathouse.
