This Naval Staff History is the second of four volumes presenting material originally classified as confidential concerning naval operations in the Mediterranean in World War II. Coverage here is of the critical years between November 1940 up to the end of 1941; although it includes the Navy's part in the campaigns for Greece and Syria, the campaign in the Red Sea, and the attempt to seize Castelorizo, most is concerned with two essential tasks undertaken by the Royal Navy: providing naval support for the Army in the Western desert and carrying out the campaign to disrupt Axis shipping.
