Overview

A rose is a woody perennial of the genus Rosa, within the family Rosaceae. There are over 100 species. Most species are native to Asia. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and often are fragrant. The medicinal properties of the different rose species were well known and the characteristic Sanskrit name given to each rose signified its curative properties for particular ailments. Roses are the basis of many rose formulations cosmetic, medicinal and dietary. Gulkand made by the mixture of Rose petals and white sugar acts as the tonic and laxative. Hips, the fruit of roses are the good source of Vitamin C. Rose petals are used to make skin healthy and glowing. The rose scent has been used in pill making for centuries. Its herbal tea is used in the treatment of cold and cough. All the attempts have made to keep the readers of this book abreast with the changing scenarios of commercial rose growing in India.
