The fourth edition of this book, like its predecessors, carries forward the teaching of streak retinoscopy based on the principles and techniques championed by its inventor, Jack Copeland. This edition updates equipment information and self-learning techniques and adds a chapter on minus cylinder retinoscopy. The book is intended to be a comprehensive introduction to streak retinoscopy and is used in conjunction with a schematic eye and case of trial lenses. This book provides the essential information to move an intimidated neophyte to a well-informed novice who can begin performing streak retinoscopy on patients. This book should be in the possession of every ophthalmology resident and ophthalmic assistant student. Undoubtedly, every ophthalmologist could gain in efficiency and accuracy as well as reduce refractive times by reading this book. Dr. Corboy has long been an effective teacher of retinoscopy. The book contains numerous fine drawings and black-and-white photographs that aid the reader in doing the technique and understanding the principles. Two pages of references and suggested reading lists provide other study resources. The index is helpful in finding similar and related eye problems. The new minus cylinder chapter is useful for people wishing to master this style of retinoscopy. Although the book is filled with outstanding and useful material by Dr. Corboy, it also contains exercises and suggestions that make the reader seem as though he or she is in Jack Copeland's instructional course. Both are superb teachers of one of the most important components of a comprehensive ophthalmic examination. Streak retinoscopy remains a crucial element in the accuratedetermination of refractive error, and this book is a key element in learning to correctly and accurately perform the technique.
