On an outing to the local community park, a family explores all the colors of the rainbow—from a favorite red slide and purple sprinkler to a yellow bench where grandparents watch and relax. Publishing simultaneously with The Numbers Store, The Rainbow Park is part of an exciting new board book series, featuring an intergenerational Black family over the course of a day, that teaches readers early-concepts such as colors and numbers.

About the Author

Harold Green III is an ever-evolving artist whose vibrant storytelling and passionate, lyrical delivery captivate audiences domestically and internationally. Using poetry as his central art form, Harold is a highly sought-after speaker, bandleader, and event producer. His self-published first collection of poetry, From Englewood, with Love, earned the prestigious Carl Sandburg Literary Award. He is also the author of Black Roses and Black Oak, a duo of illustrated volumes inspired by his viral odes to Black celebrities who are making history today (HarperDesign, 2022), as well as the forthcoming picture book Love Bubble (RP Kids, 2023).

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, DeAnn Wiley has been a self-taught painter for five years. She began with traditional acrylic painting and just began her journey into the digital art world with a focus on children’s illustrations. Her debut picture book, Sarah Rising, releases from Beaming Books in May 2022. She is an advocate for social justice, as she sits at the intersection of many identities: Black, woman, queer and disabled. When she is not painting or illustrating, she is working on her final year of grad school for Counseling Psychology. DeAnn is committed to learning, growing, and healing and each phase of her journey can be seen through her art.

A multigenerational Black family enjoys a day at the park in this concept board book from two creators making children’s debuts. Alternately narrating siblings explore a playground, tying each experience to a color: the two enjoy a red slide and orange monkey bars, and parents and grandparents join in the fun, splashing in puddles made by a purple sprinkler and stretching out on green grass until a rainbow arcs over them. In quiltlike patterned images whose collage effect adds energy and interest to Green’s simple color-teaching story, Wiley depicts the children’s loving world, which includes family members spreading arms wide in enthusiasm and play.
