About the Author

Dr. Debra Tann is originally from Sacramento, California. Dr. Tann and her husband moved to Valdosta (via military) twenty-five years ago when all three of their sons were under the age of five. Fast forward…their oldest son graduated from Yale University and is married to a Yale graduate and Rhodes scholar. Their middle son graduated from the University of North Georgia and is in law enforcement and is married to a middle grade’s history teacher. Their youngest son graduated from Toccoa Falls Christian College and is in the business world. He is married to his college sweetheart who is degreed in the performing arts. Dr. Tann is married to a retired and career navy man. Currently, they travel and celebrate one granddaughter who happens to be one year old.
Professionally, Dr. Tann has taught at the community college level as a political science educator. Thereafter, she went on to teach at the university level after obtaining her doctorate degree in Education Administration and Leadership. Dr. Tann’s dissertation was entitled “The Effects of Developmental Education Programs for Service Members in the United State Military.” Her dissertation produced groundbreaking research that subsequently garnered her opportunities to present at national conferences in the United States. Dr. Tann also has life-long credentials and certifications in Community College, Adult Basic Education, and Competency Based Education. Moreover, she is nationally certified in Differentiated Learning Styles and is recognized as Who’s Who in the Southeast.
In 2002, Dr. Tann planned, implemented, and executed a private independent school called Genesis Christian School. Her middle son, who was in the third grade, questioned her colossal project by stating “no one starts a school.” He was correct in that it was a special calling from the Lord. Genesis Christian School was groundbreaking in that it supported itself solitarily (no governmental financial assistance) throughout its tenure. This task commanded enormous competence, dedication, and faith. The school impacted many lives that sought to meet students at their Genesis. It also won “Small Business of the Year.”
What is more, Genesis relocated from leasing a 5,500 square foot property to purchasing a forty thousand-square-foot campus nestled on nine acres of fenced property. The school boasted thirty-three classrooms, full gymnasium with wood floors, a 2,300 square footage library, a state-of-the-art kitchen/cafeteria, and much more.
