The Purpose of Life in Economics: Weighing Human Values Against Pure Science
This book is a compilation of economic views on the purpose of life. It follows a unique approach, starting with propositions from diverse fields that act as governing laws of the purpose of life in economics, then guiding the reader through the physical, philosophical, and psychological views of the purpose of life, as economics and economic theories can find their roots in all these areas. The book concludes with the purpose of life presented through economic doctrines (from the pre-classical, to classical, to neo-classical schools of economic thought), through the lens of economic development, and from the perspective of several religious doctrines.

What People are Saying About This

From the Publisher

In their new book, Lall Ramrattan and Michael Szenberg bring forth the human side of economics. While not critical of classical economic theories, the book exposes their limitations in terms of human values and examines the purpose of life for human affairs. It is a must read for classical and modern economists, and for everyone interested in the dichotomy between science and humanity in economics.

Iuliana Ismailescu, Pace University, USA

It is my pleasure to endorse The Purpose of Life in Economics—Weighing Human Values Against Science

Once again, Drs. Ramrattan and Szenberg have authored an enlightening book. Calling on a wide range of economic thought and religious beliefs, the reader is called to ponder the meaning of life, success and one’s purpose on earth. Spirituality is proven to have value; readers shall find themselves in deep reflection as they assess their own purpose in life. This book reminds us that we have morein common than we have differences. Respect for and understanding of each other is exactly what the world needs during these turbulent times.
