The Promise Of Spring

It was time. Poppy saved everything she could, and after weeks of preparation, she left in the middle of the night to escape an abusive relationship.

Poppy closed her eyes and randomly chose a place on a United States map. Her finger landed on St. George, Utah. That's the direction she went in her mother's old car.

"Excuse me, miss. I'm new in town. Do you know where I'd go to find a room to rent?"

Brigham was finished with women. They were all cheaters, liars, and users. He sat in the small coffee shop, going over his losses, and glanced up as a bedraggled looking young woman questioned the barista.

Something about her propelled him out of his chair. "I have several properties with vacancies. I'm Brigham Strong, I go by Brig,"  he looked around then continued, "will your family be joining you?"

"I-I'm by myself. I can't afford an apartment." She didn't turn around right away, but the fear he saw in her eyes did a number on his gut when she did.

"That's okay. Perhaps we can work something out. We can exchange services."

"I'm not for sale."

"I wasn't asking."

Follow Poppy and Brig's journey, as the promise of spring beckons, and they both learn to trust again.
