THE GRIN on Tommy Meade's face as he left the Half Moon Bar reflected his satisfaction of the incredible evening. He was content for what he thought was the first time in years after a decade of sobriety. Yet, his body was numb.

He stood for a moment with his feet firmly planted on the wooden deck in front of the popular bar. The grin quickly left his face as his head throbbed and a wave of nausea swept over him. Two men watched through the dusty windows as he fought for his balance.

The numbness deepened, and the buzz in his head intensified.

He glanced up at the clear Seattle sky and inhaled several deep breaths of crisp air, then staggered forward on rubber legs and leaned against the wood column next to the steps. His thoughts were scrambled and his eyelids drooped as if miniature dumbbells were attached to them.

About the Author

If lightning doesn't strike the same place twice, what are the odds that cancer would strike
David Yates three times - and he would survive?
David Yates survived serving military duty in Vietnam, only to come home and find out that he had cancer - malignant melanoma, to be exact. After surgery and recovery time, he was finally getting back on his feet when the cancer returned less than two years later. Surgery and treatment again followed, and David was back into his life - changed, but still moving forward.
More than three decades later, David found himself receiving the news of a cancer diagnosis for the third time. He continues to write. This is the second of 10 books.
