It was sunup when Davie opened his eyes in the pig pen. A huge hog was grunting and nudging him with it's muddy snout. He shooed it away and sat up. Davie was groggy, and when he could think, he looked around and was shocked at what he saw next! Just across the fence were what appeared to be deformed beings! He had never seen anyone like them before! They were all grotesquely different from each other. One man had no lower body and stood on his hands, using his arms the way one would use legs; one was a plump woman with a long beard; two were strange-looking women with small bald heads that went up into points. They were like sisters and pulled a red child's wagon with a being in it that had no arms or legs and was like a human slug.
He saw a tall man, and without a shirt, so skinny he was like a human skeleton. Beside him was a giant man over seven feet tall with a shaved head and a large ring dangling from one ear. He had a black, handlebar mustache. Davie's eyes grew large! In an instant, he recalled his dream of demonic beings, then of his friend's account of seeing mutant demons when he was once on a bender. Davie remembered Hiram's word: "If you see demons, you're either an alcy or a you're dead."
He felt sudden terror! "Oh God! No! he screamed to the top of his voice. "Demons! I'm dead! I've gone to hell! God, save me! NO!!!"
One of them called out to Davie. "Hey! Hey there! You are not in hell, you're in Social Circle."
