Sixteen-year-old Dee Dee Warburton is a sassy-mouthed girl stuck in a super-religious family, living in the boondocks of rural Oklahoma. It is 1986 and the only thing more important than a can of good hairspray is Dee Dee’s affection for her boyfriend, Cobb. Too bad the powerful Queen Bee of the school, Sami Maguire, has her evil eye on the same guy. Ruthless Sami launches a bullying campaign against Dee Dee and steals her man, enlisting the help of nearly the entire school. Dee Dee struggles through her junior year with a blend of humor and sarcasm, frantically dodging bullies while trying to keep her giant hairdo in place.

Darla G. Smith is a hard-working wife, mother of two, sales-person by day, wanna-be author by night. She still listens to the music of Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, and Def Leppard (even though the 1980s are long gone) and happily bangs her head whenever possible.
