With all the heft and density of candy floss, this book is not recommended for sturdier appetites. If on the other hand you not only know what 'neurasthenic' means, but feel the term could apply to you, the thing might have some appeal.

Both arch and twee—no mean feat. Hardly a page failed to send me to the dictionary—infuriating. There can be very few in the world who would enjoy a work like this; but for such as would, I think I can fairly say they will get what they deserve.

If a talking animal mystery in an ornate literary style with a touch of sci-fi fantasy and more than a touch of faux-English mid-century nostalgia sounds like your cuppa, then set your expectations no higher than the book's title would encourage you to do, and you might be pleasantly surprised.
