Lucy’s parents own The Pizza Palace, and they offer 100 different kinds of pizza. Lucy, however, likes just plain cheese. One afternoon, her parents tell her that they have won a contest, and is Lucy excited. Her favorite TV star, Flory Glory, is going to come to The Pizza Palace. Lucy and her best friends prepare a welcome sign. Then the big day arrives. Wow! A limo, red carpet, and large entourage are all part of the hubbub when Flory arrives. When she orders plain cheese pizza, the girls have a common bond. This then becomes the launching point for a math lesson which covers the next four pages. At the end of the text, there is a math activity (answer provided), a glossary, a listing of several older books about fractions, and a link to FactHound to find internet sites. This is a Green Level book in the “Math Read It Readers” series, which presents more complex ideas, extended vocabulary, and language structure.
