About the Author

The author, Roger Frisch, associate concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra, has had the privilege of coaching many musicians for symphony orchestra auditions over the years. He received his early musical training from his father, Wilbert Frisch, longtime associate concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, studying with Henry Meyer of the LaSalle Quartet, and a master’s degree from Indiana University, where he studied with the renowned pedagogue, Josef Gingold. First prizewinner of the Hermann Violin Competition and the Coleman International Chamber Music Competition, Frisch enjoys a wide-ranging career as soloist, chamber musician, pedagogue and orchestral player.
Since 1997 Frisch has traveled 5 times to Ukraine giving Chamber Music/Ministry concerts throughout the country with the Kairos Trio including Herbert Johnson, piano and Michele Antonello Frisch, flute. The Minnesota Baptist Conference sponsored these concerts. During the summer of 2007 he traveled to China to perform as soloist with the Hunan Symphony Orchestra as well as perform recitals throughout the country. He returned to China to perform as soloist with orchestra in Henen Province and perform recitals in Beijing, Shanghai and other cities throughout the country in October of 2009.
In addition to his ongoing position with the Minnesota Orchestra, Mr. Frisch served as concertmaster of the Milwaukee Symphony and concertmaster of the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra in Wintergreen, Virginia for five seasons.
