The book is intended to define the microanatomy of each type of structure, the relationships of the orbital and surrounding structures as seen from different directions, and finally, the structures as seen from multiple operative approaches.
Purpose: The purpose is to bring the anatomy of the orbit and the associated areas into perspective. This book has been an effort to improve the understanding of microsurgical anatomy and the operative skills in this region.
Audience: The book has been primarily designed for practicing neurosurgeons mainly involved in skull base and orbital surgery. It is also recommended for trauma surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, ophthalmic surgeons, and plastic surgeons operating in and around the orbit.
Features: With the recent advances in the skull base and orbital surgery, there was an increasing need for anatomy of the orbit and its relationship to the sellar region and surrounding areas and this excellent work fills that void. This book has been very well organized in three parts. The first deals with osseous, neural, arterial, venous, and muscular anatomy. The second shows stepwise dissections of the orbit and sellar region, and the third deals with the anatomy as seen in common operative procedures.
Assessment: The book is an important and excellent presentation of the anatomy and various surgical approaches to skull base and orbital surgery. The quality of the various anatomical and surgical illustrations are very detailed and informative. This book is an invaluable contribution in neurosurgery and could not be presented in any better way.
