Love is a subject that has captivated human beings since the beginning of time. History, fairy tales and literature are brimming with romantic and passionate stories. • From cavemen dragging their women across the ground and Romeo serenading Juliet, to the fickle heart of Henry VIII and Rapunzel letting down her golden hair, love, as the song goes, does indeed make the world go 'round. • Ah, the things we do for love. Wars have been waged in its name, kings have abdicated the throne to be with their sweethearts. There is no doubt that ardor and passion have changed the course of history. • Love consumes us. Should I marry my intended?, Is she the right girl for me?, Is my fiancé faithful?, Does he share my passion? -- these are just a few of the questions that each of us has pondered at some point in our lives. • Some ask friends and parents for advice, others seek the help of a therapist or confer with a psychic, but one thing is certain: looking for answers to matters of the heart is an ingrained part of our human nature. • Our ancestors invented an array of different ways to seek answers. The Chinese devised the I Ching:The Book of Changes over four thousand years ago, interpreting the patterns of yarrow stalks or coins. The ancient Greeks used oracles-humans who acted as divine intermediaries who delivered messages from the gods to their earthbound counterparts. Others have analyzed clouds, candle wax and animal entrails for guidance. One of the most popular forms of divination is bibliomancy-the answering of a question by means of randomly choosing a word or passage from a book, usually the Bible. • The book you'reholding, The Oracle of Love: Answers to Questions of the Heart, is a do-it-yourself divination tool that will help you do just that. Within these pages are answers drawn from a variety of ancient and modern divination techniques, such as the crystal ball, astrology, palmistry, letters of fortune, gemstones, tarot and numerology. And all of the answers deal with the topic du jour-love. • Now, there are those who scoff at the idea of soothsaying. The truth is, bibliomancy and other forms of divination aren't really about predicting the future. They are tools that can help guide you to the answer that already lies deep inside yourself. • Intuition is a tricky thing, and some folks are born possessing finely tuned intuitive skills. They are the ones who instinctively knew to settle on the most fertile soil or had a feeling that they should give up their seat on the ship that never reached its destination. But if you're one of those souls who couldn't find your intuition if it were calling your name, don't abandon hope just yet. Like the ugly duckling that turned into a comely swan, you can get your intuition (back) in shape by doing three things: keeping an open mind, getting plenty of mental exercise and using this book.
