Anyone doing research on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) will find this extensive bibliography very helpful. Heckman (an LJ reviewer) begins with a history of the exchange, which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year, and continues with a series of annotated bibliographies devoted to dictionaries and general guides, directories, bibliographies, general histories, and statistical sources. All the chapters feature an introductory description regarding the scope of the individual bibliography, and some chapters focus on a particular time period or event such as the stock market crashes of 1929 and 1987. The appendixes include a chronology of the NYSE, a list of presidents and chairs of the board, a directory of serial publications, listings of abstracts and indexes, online databases, and CD-ROM products. The author, title, and subject index is very useful. Libraries with business history collections should consider adding this thorough and useful research tool.
