Overview

In The Motor Boys over The Ocean, Jerry wants to make improvements to The Comet, their dirigible/airplane that will allow it to land on and take off from water: a "hydroplane," he calls it. But, before that can happen, Ned's father has some business troubles, and asks Ned to get help from Mr. Jackson, a millionaire and balloon enthusiast. When the boys get to the balloon carnival, they discover Mr. Jackson's balloon has been blown out to sea in a hurricane and needs help himself. Once again, the dauntless Motor boys don't hesitate a second, in a series of happenings as interesting as they are exciting, not the least of which is how they transfer Mr. Jackson and his crew from his balloon to the Comet—while in the air! Almost unbelievable.

About the Author

Clarence Young was a Stratemeyer Syndicate pen name. Howard Garis almost certainly wrote the series, although Stratemeyer usually provided his authors with an outline of the books. Garis and his wife, Lillian, wrote many children’s books under their own name. They are best known for a series of books that featured the character of Uncle Wiggily Longears, an engaging elderly rabbit. Many of Garis’ books were illustrated by Lansing Campbell. Garis and his wife, Lilian Garis, were possibly the most prolific children's authors of the early 20th century. Garis wrote many books for the Stratemeyers Syndicate as well, over a period of some 30 years.
