About the Author

Ivis Wonlah was born in Liberia, a small country off the West Coast of Africa. She migrated to the U.S. at the age of seven due to a civil war that lasted fourteen years. Ivis arrived in the U.S. barely knowing how to speak English. When she began school and picked up a book to read for the first time, she instantly fell in love. What excited her most about reading was the ability the books had to take her on adventures. Aside from the excitement she received from reading books, reading also helped her English tremendously. When she had read almost every book afforded to her, she decided that she too had great stories to tell. Growing up as a young girl in Liberia, barely escaping the war, and being bullied for her accent were all used as motivation to write short creative stories in her journal.

Ivis began writing in her journal daily. She was highly driven by fantasies and science fiction, so she mostly
wrote about places she escaped to when she daydreamed and the things she did while there. It wasn’t until 2011 that Ivis wrote and self-published her first book, which was based on her satirical perspectives of the common struggles Africans face in America. However, she felt like she had much more to offer creatively. She went on to selfpublish three children’s books.

In recent years, she has birthed three beautiful kids: Shiloh, Lee-Arias, and Fortress. She loves being a mother. She began writing this work in 2013, when her oldest daughter, Shiloh, was born. Throughout the years her children have become her motivation and the creative driving force of this story. When she’s not writing she enjoys time with her children, working in the church ministry, binge-watching interesting series, and traveling.
