Overview

The motion picture, "The Matrix", originated from a complex idea that evolved into a story. And like other science fiction stories preceding it, it begins with the phase, "What If." Again, fueling man's infinite imagination and his insight. Which could be classified as one of the same.

In 1996, while working at my computer, the 'what if' question inspired the idea of a science fiction story. As I stared into my screen, the idea began to take root in my mind's eye. My imagination took over as I played with the idea, while stroking my keyboard entering data. I was physically working but my mind was in space, while the computer cursor kept blinking, forcing me to enter command after command. Then it all became clear. What if someone were watching me on the other side of the computer screen in virtual reality - observing me, monitoring me and what if I were in virtual reality at this very moment? The idea was simple, believable, and probable, based on creative imagination. It was all clear in my mind as I began writing the story on scraps of paper. I called the short story, "The Solution."
