The Masks We Wear

The Masks We Wear is about Harmony Cole, a young woman who has grown up amidst the fast-paced, power hungry metropolis of plastic and cameras in Los Angeles, CA.

When her world comes crashing down on her, after her sister’s drug overdose and tragic death, she is forced to reexamine her priorities. She begins to notice the socially constructed masks those around her have been wearing, and escapes from what she perceives to be a dysfunctional world of denial and secrets.

Harmony leaves all of the “comforts” she has known behind, embarking on a journey that takes her to Europe. Through her adventures abroad, she encounters obstacles that provide her with an opportunity to truly test her resilience. Harmony rediscovers herself when she is forced to take off her mask.

About the Author

Stacie Cooper was born and raised in a beach community in southern California, where she currently resides with her adorable pup, Toby. She loves traveling, especially internationally, and has lived in both Spain and Costa Rica. She is a doctor of clinical psychology and worked in the field for eight years, mainly helping underprivileged adolescents and college students struggling with depression and eating/body image issues. However, she has always had a passion for writing and editing. During graduate school, she published a dissertation and several articles, and she loved serving as an informal “editor” for her fellow students and colleagues. Thus, she took a chance in 2009 and decided to pursue a full-time career as a freelance writer and editor instead of becoming a licensed clinical psychologist. She now works as a life coach with teenagers and young adults. She has several other writing projects in the works and hopes to empower youth through her writing.
