Overview

Penny and her dog Patch get lost in the Newport Gorge forest in late afternoon just as a storm moves in from the south. With the storm threatening and night approaching they take shelter in a cave. During the night they both drink from a small pond in the back of the cave even though it has a soft green glow to the water. In the morning Penny discovers that she can communicate with Patch telepathically. However, she can't tell anyone as they would think she is crazy. Penny and Patch then embark on a series of adventures based in their newly acquired ability to talk to each other.

BOOK FIVE: Penny and the Park Incidents
The tracking ability of Patch and the four dogs in the Nice Squad are key to fining a lost girl in the forest near the park. Then they are needed again to track a thief who is stealing rare orchids from the botanical gardens at the park.

BOOK SIX: Penny and the Lake View Opportunity
Penny is very concerned about the welfare of the Nice Squad dogs as winter approaches. She decides to investigate whether they would be welcome as dog companions to the old people who reside at the Lake View Aged Care Home. She investigates the home with her mother on a visit to the home to check on their Aunt Edith. Finally she is able to introduce the homeless dogs to the home where they are welcomed and able to stay.

The Magic Pond Series is best read in sequence.
