Overview

Eltanin Publishing's Oz Series - #13

~ includes ALL the original illustrations (over 100) by John R. Neill, many of them in color, and a new Preface by Oz expert and Eltanin Editor Joseph Nusbaum. ~~

~~ From the Preface:
The Magic of Oz was Baum's penultimate Oz book and was published in June of 1919, one month after the author passed away. Perhaps more than any other Oz book, Baum's personal circumstances and those of the current events of World War I make their way into the story. Baum dedicates the book to "the children of our Soldiers, the Americans and their Allies, with unmeasured Pride and Affection." And in Baum's prefatory note he admits "...in the events which have taken place in the last few years in our 'great outside world,' we may find incidents so marvelous and inspiring that I cannot hope to equal them with stories of the Land of Oz." In the story itself, vestiges of the First World War imprint themselves into the plot of The Magic of Oz; when a forest of monkeys are transformed into soldiers, even the illustrator Neill goes so far as to depict them in American uniforms from the war.

The Magic of Oz is the 13th book in the Oz series. We (Eltanin Publishing) have also published:
