The Mage of Bed-Stuy
Max Bryant is a handsome, athletic, New York City cop working as a Forensic Investigator in Albany when he finds out his old partner, Jim Yang, was killed during a bank robbery. Max races to Brooklyn to console Jim's wife and solve the crime, only to be confronted by dead ends that all lead to a beautiful green-haired girl who's looking for the same artifact the murderer tried to steal. When the two agree to work together, Max knows she's after only one thing, and it's not his heart. Their race across the five boroughs of New York leads them from Bedford-Stuyvesant to Coney Island to the Statue of Liberty, all in a desperate attempt to find the truth.

It's just a routine week for an ancient mage and his new partner, Beth, as they look for a magical stone, the Painite Simulacrum, a source of limitless power to the sorcerer who possesses it. As Max gets closer to finding Jim's killer, he must rely on his wits, as well as his magical brothers and sisters to keep the most powerful sorcerer he's ever met at bay. Will Max find Jim's killer before the killer finds the artifact? And will his love for Beth keep her from betraying him and leaving with the stone every mage on earth has been trying to find for 13000 years?

The Mage of Bed-Stuy, by first time fantasy author Chris Barshick, is a fast-paced journey through Max Bryant's most unusual life. Max has been a centurion, army soldier, security guard, and police officer for the better part of the past 4000 years. This has allowed him to eavesdrop on some of the most important conversations in history, giving the reader a new perspective on how history might have unfolded if it were influenced by magic.

Historically accurate, the reader won't know where fact ends, and fiction begins. Max's interactions with historical figures like Sigmund Freud, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Oppenheimer, and the Knights Templar, make each chapter a history lesson wrapped in a compelling story of mystery, murder, betrayal, and love.

Filling a hole in the fantasy genera, The Mage of Bed-Stuy will provide the reader a chance to imagine what the world would be like if wizards and humans coexisted. At a relatively short 260 pages, the reader will fall in love with Max, while rooting for him to find the killer and win Beth's heart.
