Overview

A dark and light collection of horror tales from the morbid murky madness of Lori R. Lopez, along with a poem, an introduction on fear, and a conclusion on why writers write . . . all previously published in anthologies, on websites, or individually as E-books . . . gathered in one spectacularly eerie volume! A zombie defender must question his principles when a hunter becomes infected by the zombie plague and threatens the boy's mother in HEARTBEAT. A teen learns the terrible truth about the house NEXT DOOR. A young woman's dream of independence is challenged when her parents depart and she must face her Night Frights in MACABRE. A very troubled man seeks professional help for his hang-ups, compulsions and phobias in BACKLASH. A Thin Man wanders into a world of trouble after the carnival that was his home goes bust in UNNATURAL. These are among the tormented souls who inhabit the author's morbidly manic thoughts! THE MACABRE MIND OF LORI R. LOPEZ was her first full-length compendium devoted to the creepier side of life. The dark places and spaces not under the Sun or Moon. In Lori's mind, horrors, humor and weirdities abound. From zombies and strange creatures to psychos, werewolves and Bigfoot, this is a book you should not read when alone. Or lost in the woods. Or strolling past a fence. Or walking down a crowded street. Read it in a library or bookstore, someplace safe! (And good luck.) Look for an Illustrated Print Edition containing original artwork by the author.

About the Author

Lori R. Lopez wears so many hats, including as an Author and Artist, that her hat-rack could span the world’s grandest canyon or bridge the gap between Present and Future. Add to the list Poet, Musician, Singer-Songwriter, Actress as well as Filmmaker. Not to mention Book-Lover and all-around Eccentric Kook. Lore (to avoid being redundant) has loved books since being read to when small. She couldn’t wait to learn to read and has led many lifetimes within the pages of great literature. But becoming a published author was her lifelong dream, among others, and she has always been writing something ever since she learned how . . . from stories and poems as a child and folksongs as a young adult to children’s books, Nonfiction about her life, a myriad of Fiction projects, verse, a poetry column, and the dark tales her heart yearned to write for just about ever. This book was Lori’s debut full-length horror collection, first released in Twenty Twelve, a year the world had been teetered on the brink of uncertainty due to a prophecy about an ancient Mayan Calendar etched long long ago. Which proves the power of writing and recording ideas in whatever form, on whatever surface they might be read. Lori started publishing her books, short stories, and verse in Two Thousand Eight as Print Editions; in Two Thousand Eleven as E-books. She published some stories and her “Poetic Reflections” column on a website shared with her sons from Two Thousand Nine. However many tomes the busy scribe should complete in subsequent years, it will never be enough to soothe the wild beat of her imagination, the frantic pulse of her aspirations.
