When Narsine, the feisty young princess of the Water Guardians, meets Arvan and Paricie, the twin princes of the Firefields, she realizes just how deep these wounds have become. When circumstances push her and Paricie into an unlikely and illicit friendship, they become determined to heal these hurts and bring peace to their war-torn world. This becomes ever more difficult as rumors of a new enemy rise from the ashes of legend, and one by one, the dragons from each Force begin to disappear.
Death and desolation reign as kings are murdered and Guardians slowly fall prey to violent madness as they are separated from their beloved dragons. Narsine is determined to find the source of the disappearances, and a reluctant Paricie joins her, following a trail of horrifying facts in an attempt to find an answer.
