Chapter One
It all began at the birthday party of a boy. The party was full of kids having fun, eating, and drinking soda.
There was only one thing wrong.
None of the boys knew about the importance of recycling.
You could hear the crying of the cans when they were thrown away in the wrong garbage container.
When the party was over and everybody was gone, you could see cans all over the house. It was a real mess, so the boy's father started to clean the house by picking up the leftovers.
For a moment, all the cans started to feel happy, and they screamed, "He knows! He knows! He knows where we belong."
Nevertheless, again it was useless. He was not aware of the importance of recycling.
The boy's father threw all the cans away with the rest of the garbage.
As the cans fell down, they screamed, "No! No! Please! We do not belong in here. We belong in the recycling box—the box for aluminum!"
He took the garbage bag outside and dumped it into the big garbage disposal. It was difficult to close the barrel because it was full of all different kinds of things, so he pushed and pushed to force the bag in, until a hole opened in the bag and a can slipped out. The can fell to the ground, rolled to the side of the street, and was carried away by running water.
The can screamed, "Help! Help!" But nobody was listening; nobody helped it, and it became the "lost can."
