Overview

This book began as a story. When my daughter was about three years old, she was laying in bed having a rough night. My wife asked if I could go tell her a story. I wasn't sure what to tell her but I thought I could make up something. At the time, she carried around a little stuffed puppy dog and her favorite color was purple. So, I made up the story about the "Little Purple Puppy." Unknown to me, she absolutely fell in love with it. The next day when I came home from work, my wife told me that all me daughter could talk about was the Little Purple Puppy. At three years old, she tried and tried to retell the story. When my son came along, it quickly became a favorite to him as well.

Chapter One

Once upon a time, there was a little purple puppy who lived in the woods with his mommy.

And one day, she gave the Little Purple Puppy a bath.

When the Little Purple Puppy was done taking a bath, he asked his mommy if he could go out and play.

She said, "Yes you may, but DON'T YOU GET DIRTY!" The Little Purple Puppy said, "Oh, yes, Mama! Thank you, Mama!"

So, the Little Purple Puppy went out to play. As he was walking along, he came across a water puddle.

The Little Purple Puppy loved water puddles! So, he jumped in and he splished and he splashed and he swished and he swashed and he rooooolled around!

And when he came out, he wasn't purple anymore! He was all dirty. And the Little Purple Puppy was so sad because his mommy told him, "DON'T YOU GET DIRTY." So, the Little Purple Puppy hung his head and started walking slowly back home.

As the Little Purple Puppy was heading back home, he came across Mr. Turtle.

Mr. Turtle said, "Hello, Little Purple Puppy. Why so down?"

The Little Purple Puppy said, "Oh, Mr. Turtle! My mommy told me I could go out and play. But she said, 'DON'T YOU GET DIRTY!' Oh, Mr. Turtle! I'm so dirty. I'm in so much trouble."

Mr. Turtle said, "Well, Little Purple Puppy, that's okay. Just come on down to my house and you can wash off in my pond."

The Little Purple Puppy said, "Oh, Mr. Turtle! Will that get me clean?"

Mr. Turtle said, "Yes, of course. Come on down."

So, the Little Purple Puppy followed Mr. Turtle down to his pond. He jumped in and he splished and he splashed and he swished and he swashed and he rooooolled around!

And when the Little Purple Puppy came out of the pond, he was all clean and purple again!
