A 6-week Artist's Way Program from legendary author Julia Cameron

"A book on better listening seems particularly suited for audio, and careful listeners will be rewarded." -- Booklist

The newest audiobook from beloved author Julia Cameron, The Listening Path is a transformational journey to deeper, more profound listening and creativity. Over six weeks, listeners will be given the tools to become better listeners-to their environment, the people around them, and themselves. The reward for learning to truly listen is immense. As we learn to listen, our attention is heightened and we gain healing, insight, clarity. But above all, listening creates connections and ignites a creativity that will resonate through every aspect of our lives.

Julia Cameron is the author of the explosively successful book The Artist's Way, which has transformed the creative lives of millions of readers and listeners since it was first published. Incorporating tools from The Artist's Way, The Listening Path offers a new method of creative and personal transformation.

Each week, listeners will be challenged to expand their ability to listen in a new way, beginning by listening to their environment and culminating in learning to listen to silence. These weekly practices open up a new world of connection and fulfillment. In a culture of bustle and constant sound, The Listening Path is a deeply necessary reminder of the power of truly hearing.

Editorial Reviews

DECEMBER 2020 - AudioFile

Between brief introductory and closing segments read by the author, Eliza Foss performs this powerful audiobook in a mature-sounding voice she modulates with skill. Comfortable with herself and her craft, she sounds optimistic—like someone who believes in Cameron’s iconic wisdom and counsel. The author of the bestseller THE ARTIST’S WAY describes six types of listening she wants her audience to learn in six weeks of experimentation, practice, and awareness. It’s soothing to hear Cameron’s ideas—suggestions and guidance that listeners will not need to struggle to adopt. She emphasizes the importance of daily writing, solo walks, and artist’s dates. Incorporating these activities and routines into your life will help you love yourself and believe in your art. T.W. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine

Cameron delivers an accessible, insightful addition to her The Artist’s Way workbooks with this take on how being a better listener can increase creativity. She begins by describing three “basic tools” that should be incorporated into daily life: writing every morning, artist’s dates (“a solo expedition to do something that enchants or interests you”), and walking. Other activities recommended include listening to the sounds in one’s home and environment, paying more attention in conversations with friends and family, and even tapping into messages from dead loved ones and personal heroes by simply addressing them in writing and asking questions. Cameron’s illustrative musings about her own process are presented alongside interviews with artists, writers, and other creatives about the role that listening plays in their lives and crafts. For instance, actress Jennifer Bassey compares attentive listening, the act of “reacting and responding,” to falling in love, and Cameron frequently laments the fact that when people talk over each other they “lose a valuable chance to learn.” Cameron’s fans will love this straightforward program.
