George Eli is an American Roma activist, author, filmmaker and spiritualist. He is the founder of the Romani Media Initiative (RMI), an organization dedicated to raising the social status of the Roma people through positive representation in media.
He wrote The Last of the Magi: The Devouring, becoming the first person from his highly traditional Roma community to write a book. The novel is intended to create a fictional Roma hero who can inspire Roma youth and counter prejudice and discrimination against Roma.
Eli is also a documentary filmmaker and TV producer. His film Searching for the 4th Nail explores and questions many of the Romani traditions he grew up with while simultaneously smashing racist Romani stereotypes. The film went on to win numerous awards including the Connecticut Film Festival's "Best Filmmaker" award. Eli was also a producer on the critically acclaimed When the Road Bends: Tales of a Gypsy Caravan, and a consulting producer on the hit FYI show Arranged.
As a spiritualist for more than ten years, he has helped hundreds of clients live their best lives by guiding them as they reached their personal goals and lasting spiritual understanding and wellness. Eli has been featured on NPR, WEBE-108, FOX News's Tucker Carlson, and CNN's Anderson Cooper. Additionally, he's a lecturer who has shared his teachings in spiritualism and his expertise on Romani culture at Harvard University, the United Nations, University of Texas at Austin, U.S. State Department, Bohemian National Hall at the Czech Consulate, Hungarian Cultural Center in Berlin, and many others. www.GSEli.com
