About the Author

DON THOMAS writes regularly about bowhunting, wing-shooting, fly-fishing, and wildlife for numerous outdoor publications and has authored 17 books on related subjects. He serves as co-editor of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine, Editor-at-Large for Retriever Journal, and Field Editor for Ducks Unlimited, and writes regular columns for Bowhunter and Salmon and Steelhead Journal. His work also appears regularly in publications such as Gray’s Sporting Journal, Alaska Magazine, Fish Alaska, Pheasants Forever, Shooting Sportsman, and Big Sky
Journal. He works part time as a physician on a remote Montana Indian reservation and as a bear hunting guide in Alaska, where he has also been a pilot and commercial fisherman. He and his wife Lori divide their time between homes in rural Montana and coastal Alaska. Hounds, bird dogs, and Labrador retrievers have largely taken the place of their four grown children.
