Overview

As Blake Blackman left Monroe, North Carolina, to go to college, she thought she had a plan for her life. She'd get a degree, build a career, then probably get married and have kids-someday. But the school she chose was all wrong for her, and then she met a boy. The boy. Before she knew it, she and Zach were inseparable. And then she discovered that she was pregnant. By the time Blake was twenty-one years old, she had already renegotiated her dreams to become a wife and stay-at-home mother. Her personal losses grew deeper when she and Zach lost a child and their marriage dissolved under the weight of grief. She found her heart growing more dark and bitter until it was impossible to reimagine her life again, despite her best attempts to keep going. But at this low point in her journey through grief, unexpected grace and light broke through and flooded her blackened heart. "The Journey of the Black Heart" is more than just Blake's story. It's a guidebook for anyone in the depths of grief and sadness, those searching for meaning in what has happened and who are trying to reimagine a life with hope and grace.

About the Author

Blake Blackman grew up on a turkey farm in rural North Carolina, listening to her grandparents, parents, and aunts recount timeless stories of life in the South. Along the way, spinning a good yarn became embedded somewhere deep inside her-and then life gave her some tough stories to tell.

In her first book, "The Journey of the Black Heart," Blake narrates how she did (and didn't) cope with the loss of a child, a marriage, and the life she thought she wanted.

In 2006, Blake fell madly in love with Jesus, and she has been talking and writing about life, faith, love, doubt, and grief ever since.

These days she focuses her time on volunteering at a local hospital, going back for that college degree she skipped, and pursuing her love of writing and storytelling.

More than anything Blake is passionate about her husband, Jason, her teenage son, Noah, her two rambunctious cats, cooking for friends, The Indigo Girls, a good laugh, and beautiful tragedies. She believes with her whole heart in the redemption of all things and that no experience in this lifetime is wasted.
