This book on the revolution of knowledge in immunology is written by investigators of international stature who had significant involvement in the development of the field of immunology. Its purpose is to describe the origins, principle events, and findings in the field of immunology by those investigators who were directly involved in the evolution of knowledge in the field. The audience will include those working in the field of immunology as basic or clinical scientists or who use immunologic techniques for diagnosis, therapy of disease, or advancement of knowledge in the field. The book includes in-depth discussions of the evolution of knowledge in immunology, historical perspectives, discussion of the philosophy of science, and some personal autobiographical data on leaders in the field. This is an excellent book for the beginner in immunology or for scientists who have worked in immunology for decades. The reader will perceive the breadth and depth of the field, major publications in the field, and historical features. Some of the history on trying to do scientific work under the oppression of dictatorial governments is fascinating.
