About the Author

George Douglas Brown (1869–1902) was a Scottish novelist. The illegitimate child of a Scottish father and Irish mother, he began his writing career as a journalist. Brown published his first novel, Love and a Sword, under the pseudonym Kennedy King, the same name he used for his articles. He is best remembered for his highly influential novel, The House with Green Shutters—published just one year before his death at thirty-three.
