Overview

"A brilliant and engrossing socio-cultural and historical rendition of the war of liberation story in Zimbabwe, refreshingly captivating as it is told from a child's perspective. A must-read in order to glean the compassion that later became the author's key reward for the harrowing experiences she went through."

-Dr. Barbara Makhalisa Nkala, author, editor, and publisher | BCMN Literary Trust

The Guarded One is a true story of a child's survival through war. The author skillfully narrates her journey through the Zimbabwe War of Liberation. As you journey with the author, you will experience a roller coaster of emotions and you will laugh, sob, learn, and be inspired by the author's resilience and resolve. Told from a child's perspective, this suspense-filled, thought-provoking, and compelling memoir brings to light the effects of war on children and the importance of a strong family background and social support system.
