Ron Atkin studied at Loughborough College of Art. Won Scholarship to Royal Academy Schools, London. Former students include Constable, Turner, and Blake, as well as, three of the Pre-Raphaelites: Millais, Holmun-Hunt and Rossetti. Ron also studied pottery under David Leach, son of Bernard Leach. 1957-61 awarded bronze and sliver medals for painting and three David Murray traveling Scholorships for landscape painting, and a portrait drawing prize.
Between 1954-57 Intermediate exam painting was chosen and hung in London,
as the best one from UK art colleges that year.

Dartington Trust, where two of his watercolours are with works by Tobey, Cecil Collins, Winifred Nicholson, Ben Nicholson, David Jones, Jacob Epstein and Henry Moore.In 1975 his 5ft x 4ft Watercolour in R.A. Summer Exhibition was chosen by one critic as being one of the best of three out of 1,300. Angel Paintings Short-listed for a Gulbenkian Print Maker’s award.
Featured in first and second edition of Dictionary of Brittish Art volume VI, 20th Century Painters and Sculptors, 1990-Present by Frances Spalding and Judith Collins, the Curator in the Modern Collection at the Tate Gallery.
