***

A translation of the "Picture," by Kebes, a disciple of Socrates, and friend of Plato, mentioned in his dialogues. Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress was evidently modeled on it. It is one of the few treasures of antiquity which will never grow old. In picturesque imagery it sets forth the Progress and Ascent of the Soul. Passing through the Gate of Life, and under the guidance of Scientific Discrimination, the soul must study and winnow the sciences. By acquiring virtues, the soul climbs the Mountain of True Culture, to the Temple of Happiness, whence she returns to guide the souls still below. The book forms a panorama of modern scientific ideals of life. This edition is illustrated.
